2 DAY COURSE
Wednesday 18th & Thursday 19th August 2021
10:30am – 4:00pm
You will learn how to screen print using blank screens and paper stencils as well as how to coat and expose screens using the photo emulsion method. You will explore colour using textile pigment inks and learn how to mix colours for screen printing.
You will be encouraged to develop a range of different surface pattern designs using layering techniques with a focus on colour, shape and pattern. There will be time to learn the techniques and then experiment with the process to create a range of exciting outcomes.
What experience do I need?
This is a mixed ability course for beginners and those with more experience. Those with previous experience of screen printing may use the course to develop ideas and gain advice from the tutor, although experience is not necessary.
What will I make?
You will make a range of screen printed fabric samples using a combination of different screen printing techniques. You can also print onto plain products such as tea towels or cotton bags if you wish, so feel free to bring these along with you.
Who is my tutor?
Kirstie Williams is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop. She is a practising designer and printmaker, creating both textile and paper based work. She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. She is passionate about bringing together a creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.
Do I need to bring anything?
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, photo emulsion, a range of ink colours, newsprint paper, cutting mats and knives are all provided. Small fabric samples will be provided to get you started but you will need to bring further fabric for printing along with you. Natural fabrics such as a plain cotton or linen would be best to print on.
Our workshops and courses look a little bit different as we ensure safe procedures are in place in light of Coronavirus. The changes we have made include;
- Requesting that students attend the workshop with a mask or face covering
- Hand sanitiser provided on entry
- Shared aprons will not be provided so please bring your own apron or wear old clothes to the workshop
- Fewer participants on courses, or using a larger space in the building where possible for some courses
If I can’t attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non refundable. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings or if lockdown measures are put back in place). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at email@example.com to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one dedicated disabled car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
