Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th November 2021
10:30am – 4:00pm
This two day course will teach you the fundamentals of screen printing onto paper, introduce you to the equipment and develop your confidence as an independent screen printer. You will learn how to register and layer your designs, and print with multiple colours. By the end of the course, you will be able to use various stencil making techniques and understand their effects. You will gain an understanding of the photo stencil emulsion technique and will learn how to coat and expose screens. Your tutor will also introduce you to relevant contextual artists and screen printing terminology.
What experience do I need?
No previous experience is necessary. The course is for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills. Those with previous experience may use the course to develop their skills and become familiar with the facilities at our workshop.
What will l make?
You will produce a series of handmade screen prints A3 size in one or two colours of your own design. There is the option to create graphic or fine art prints as well as greetings cards.
Who is my tutor?
Nat Searle is an artist based in Leeds who primarily works with screen printing processes. She explores the relationship between stripped back graphics, colour and scale. Inspiration is drawn from her immediate environment with resulting pieces being localised or site specific. Nat is a co-operative member of Leeds Print Workshop and regularly works as one of our technicians, supporting members in the workshop.
Do I need to bring anything?
Basic materials including inks and cartridge paper will be provided. The workshop also sells a range of printmaking papers if you would like to try something different. Prices range from £1 to £2.20 per sheet. You are advised to bring a portfolio folder along if you have one so you can carry your prints home – these are also available to buy at the workshop.
Our workshops and courses look a little bit different as we ensure safe procedures are in place in light of Coronavirus. The changes we have made include;
- Requesting that students attend the workshop with a mask or face covering
- Hand sanitiser provided on entry
- Shared aprons will not be provided so please bring your own apron or wear old clothes to the workshop
- Fewer participants on courses, or using a larger space in the building where possible for some courses
If I can’t attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non refundable. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings or if lockdown measures are put back in place). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at email@example.com to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one dedicated disabled car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
