Hello! I’m Susan, artist and pattern designer, and I’ve been making all kinds of art all my life.
I create art that is always uplifting, has a child-like spirit and is full of warmth, expression and colour. I work organically – no planning – I just let the ideas flow, and whether it’s ink, paint, pen, or vector/digital art, the feel of the medium I’m using always determines the artistic adventure we’ll be on. This means that you’ll see distinct types of art from me, grouped in series, according to the medium used. There’s a permanent focus on flowers, but now and then you’ll spot a friendly critter of some sort under the spotlight or you’ll get a glimpse of a made-up landscape in the background.
Though my work doesn’t often aim to be realistic as I love to work from my imagination and memory, my art has always been inspired by the natural detail I soaked up as a child growing up in rural North Yorkshire. After living for more than 20 years in London/southern England, some years ago I moved back to the village where I was born. Now I’m surrounded again by those fields of wonderful animals and birds, hedges full of beautiful wildflowers, and aged oaks and ash trees leaning away from the westerly winds. My connection with my childhood – the physical detail and the personal influences of those I was closest to – will always underpin what I create and how I feel about it. And all that I absorbed as a kid and learned from a lifetime of making art filters into everything I do, with the resulting artworks, I hope you agree, being capable of brightening the dreariest of days.
I have a wide selection of originals, prints and cards available for sale, as well as a portfolio of repeat patterns. My art will lift the look of any room in your house, and I have lots that’s perfect for kids’ rooms too. All artworks and patterns are available for licensing and I would be happy to receive enquiries about collaborations and commissions.
