Being banned from the school art room at age 13 brought my aspirations be be an artist to a full stop. It may sound dramatic, but this was a blow that left me directionless and negatively affected my already rocky mental health. After five decades of doing things I didn’t like with a brave smile over the emptiness, I dared to break the embargo and picked up a paintbrush. The rest is future.
My focus is painting, watercolour and acrylic so far, mostly abstract. I have not had an art education so my fluency in the language of art and artiness is clunky, but I do have buckets of enthusiasm to learn and explore all that art can offer.
I’ve worked mainly in education and mental health, and my focus is still on the ways art can benefit people’s wellbeing.
