“Art is my one constant love and metaphorical hug since I was a nipper. I’m Jennifer Craven B.A, I hail from West Yorkshire and I paint body parts and animal parts. Flesh, feathers and fur are my bag.”
Art and design is at the heart of everything Jennifer does, whether that’s painting for hours by rivers as a child, studying Art at Leeds College of Art, a degree in Creative Advertising and 10 years as an Art Director where she makes adverts, globally, for famous brands in top London agencies, most notably, Head & Shoulders, Vodafone, Cadbury and ASDA, in TV, radio, print, online or in store. Due to a love of outdoors and all things nature, she’s recently moved back to Gods Own Country where she makes adverts on a freelance basis and creates abstract art from her art studio.
Jennifer regularly experiments with a wide variety of media to create whatever’s in her head, whether that’s acrylics, wood carving, watercolour, lino print, cross stitch, sketching, pyrography and even organic materials like mud and vegetables. However, the favourites she always comes back to are a mixture of 2: acrylics and calligraphy pen.
“Over the years, I’ve worked hard to develop an ownable, abstract style, I want to capture a moment or feeling using minimal strokes and limited tones of colour. I’ve always been drawn to abstract painting due to it’s energy, fluid brush strokes, emotion and expression. As an Art Director usually on film or photography sets, I’ve developed a very critical eye for detail, so every stroke counts to build a graphic look. Each painting is intended to influence a viewer differently, I want the viewer to have their own take on each piece and ‘finish the painting with their eyes’.”
“I hate my work, I love my work, I hate my work, I love my work – I’m sure a familiar feeling for many artists but one I value to make every painting develop and improve.”
Jennifer takes commissions of pets and people. She also creates prints of her paintings. Please get in touch with any questions or requests.
