My life as a fine artist is divided between portrait painting and original works which include acts of improvisation. In my work I use oil paints. I take commissions and sell work online.
When sketching and painting portraits I must feel a sense of empathy for the individual, I enjoy learning about the subject as I paint them. This is true of commissioned work. Painting people is a great way to learn about them, about life. My portraits are currently realistic in style, but I hope to move into a more abstract style with these.
I am progressing into painting more original designs. As an artist I feel comfortable working on impulse, being sensitive to present feelings and observations. As such, with original designs I have minimal – or no – understanding of the final result when I look at a blank canvas, it’s about ‘finding’ the design in the process – influenced by emotional state, music and other environmental conditions.
