Taster workshop
Thursday 6th February 2020
6pm – 9pm

Description
Come and get your hands inky and your creativity flowing in a friendly, artistic environment! This session will introduce you to the technique of drypoint, an ‘intaglio’ printmaking process, where a sharp tool is used to scratch marks into the surface of a perspex plate, and a print is taken from ink which is held within these marks. Learners will be guided through the process of plate making, inking and printing in the traditional intaglio way. This is the perfect technique for anyone who enjoys drawing and exploring qualities of line as part of their printmaking practice.

Our new taster sessions offer an introduction to some of the key printmaking techniques offered and practiced here at WYPW, and a glimpse into the processes involved in creating hand-made prints. You will be guided and encouraged by experienced artists who use printmaking in their own art practice, in a professionally equipped workshop setting.

Your tutor : Cath Brooke
Cath Brooke has been making prints since she was first hooked at an evening class at Leeds College of Art over 20 years ago. She has been facilitating community arts projects for many years including teaching print to beginners and those with experience. Her approach to producing prints starts with an idea developed from sketches, but then evolves as the process takes over and she responds to the unexpected marks and colours in each layer.

Experience level
Taster sessions are designed for people who have little or no prior knowledge or experience of printmaking, but are also great for those who want to a refresher of a particular technique.

What’s included?
All basic materials such as paper, tools and equipment are provided. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to try something a bit different or take some materials home to try out.
